Helen Reddy on Madonna and Fashion

Helen Reddy on Madonna and Fashion – Helen Reddy hasn’t stayed quiet with her views on the world and women. During an interview with BlogTalkRadio that she completed while in her home in Sydney she strayed off topic for a moment discussing whores, Madonna as well as shopping for bras and then somehow she related the three subjects together.
Below you can read most of the interview where she says how Madonna made us all whores:
“I was in London earlier this year, and I had to get some new bras — because mine were falling off me, I go into the women’s lingerie department, and they’ve got pasties — you know, like strippers wear.”
“They’ve got all these little fancy things, which all have wires — which I believe cause breast cancer — but nothing that’s for women who are older, or who are heavier, or who would like to dress like a lady.
“So I finally said to the salesgirl, ‘Do you have any underwear that isn’t slutty?’ — and she pointed me to the sports department!”
“When I was a girl, we used to complain we were divided into two groups: We were either virgins or we were whores, and then along came Madonna — and now we’re all whores.
“It is horrifying to me to see these little girls, you know, dressed as sexpots, trying to imitate the latest video they’ve seen.”

Is it really that bad for the world that there just aren’t any comfortable bras to wear? They’re just all made to look good for the men in the world? I’m sort of led astray by what a “normal” bra really is. Should we be looking for a comfortable bra that does what it’s there for and nothing more? Most women would agree that you might as well add some excitement to what you’re wearing. Finding something with more to it than just functionality like lingerie or something similar doesn’t hurt does it? However, Helen Reddy says that they are “whorish.” It’s interesting that Madonna is looked at as the figure that made everyone a whore to whore. Apparently Madonna is considered the woman who transpired women’s sexuality and ability to express sexual feelings. There’s a lot of opinion and even interesting viewpoints from Helen Reddy but I’m curious to hear how the you feel about her comments.
