Miss Philippines 2010 Answer at Miss Universe 2010 Pageant – Although Miss Philippines has come under fire after saying that she has never made a major mistake during the Miss Universe competition, she later explained that she does not believe that she spoke in error. The 22 year old Miss Philippines was favored to win the pageant, but ended up placing fifth after not coming up with a viable answer to the question.

“What is one major mistake you’ve made?” she was asked by the judge.
The answer seemed to be out of place, and it is common knowledge that her response is not the kind of answer that the judges are looking for. It was even more odd, that after she gave her unusual answer, she thanked the judges for asking her such a “great question.”

Previous to giving her unexpected answer, she had expertly walked across the stage wearing high heels and a bikini, making her the favorite to win the contest. The question is commonplace in the competition, as well as in job interviews, and many people, including President Bush have struggled to answer the question with grace.

“I wish you would have given me this written question ahead of time,” Bush once said in an interview.
You would think that if she was in a position to win Miss Universe, that she would have a well-thought out answer prepared for the question. The ability to admit mistakes and show how you turned them into a lesson is something that is looked highly upon, both in the competition, and in life in general.

At 22, living a sheltered life in a conservative, backward and very slow town, what possible major mistake could she have committed? Remember, the question was about a MAJOR mistake she has done, not a MINOR mistake. I’m sure she would have admitted to minor mistakes, but not to a major one especially if she never committed any. What do you prefer? That she invents a major mistake just to satisfy the expectations of the judges? If you ask me, her major mistake is joining a beauty contest which has lost its wholesome image and has become like a skin flick (with those topless photos)since Trump took over its ownership. I don’t see any prestige in this exploitative contest.

I agree with Ruth; and besides, try to study the answer of Ms. Mexico to her question. It seemed that she did not answer the question properly. Ms. Mexico just happened to be the winner that’s why she is not criticized. Why pick on Ms. Philippines?

  3. carolina says:

I believe Miss Philippines is telling the truth. She didn’t say she never made a mistake. The question was about BIG mistake she has done. She even repeated MAJOR twice. Letting them know she hasn’t done any MAJOR,MAJOR problem in her life. She lived in a province that is very serene
and very slow. They don’t even have electricity. They grow their own food. If don’t believe google Maria Venus Raj Wish Ko Lang 1/2. You need a Filipino to translate the story.
But of course, her answer is not universally accepted.

it is a waste of beauty to ms philipppines she dont have a brain to answer a simple question, it was a big disappointment for all the filipinos who lived here in usa, we wished she should not be on the finalist now we all embarrast by her answer, i wish you the best of having confidence to your self?????

  6. mole says:

her major mistake is when she dethrone for a while to represent the philippines in the ms.universe 2010…. because of citizenship..she was born in quatar..but registered in the philippines so she stil a filipino…she fight for it..she get a philippines passport… now she is finalist in the ms.universe 2010….

  7. crisnhes says:

shame on you monica c lark!!!! you have the nerve to throw such comment?!!! look at your spelling!!!! FYI, it should be EMBARRASSED not EMBARRAST!!!!

and please, Venus came from an impoverished family and struggled to achieve what she has now… and do not compare the lifestyle you are enjoying in th USA!!!

you are such a big disappointment…

  8. Jade says:

The questions was “What is ONE BIG MISTAKE that you have made in your life and what did you do to make it right?” –She never said that she is perfect and never made a mistake in her life.
I think what she was really trying to say is; she has not made any major or (big mistake, as what was stated in the question) at her age because she has a loving family to guide and support her. She’s still young and maybe her major/big mistake is yet to come but she is confident that with her family’s love/support and guidance she will be able to make the best decisions in her life that will not cost her to make any big/major mistake.

  9. Lisa says:

@ monica-first of all, Ms. Philippines have come a long way. To be one of the finalist in a huge pageant is an accomplishment. If you’re a true Filipino, you would accept her as your own and should still be proud of what she’s accomplished and not be disappointed. You’re comment is a disgrace. You said ALL filipinos, that’s WRONG, not all filipinos are disappointed. Maybe you and I’m sure, you, yourself, have not accomplished anything close to where she is now. Ms. Venus Raj, as a pure blood Filipino, here in the US, I wish you nothing but the best in life. Keep your head up!

  10. Lisa says:

and btw Monica, please read your comment again. You can’t even write. Take English 101, it’s available at any community college. Have a great weekend. Be kind to your own race.

  11. daisy aya says:

she was very arrogant with her answer, too much confidence in herself or may she didn’t know how to answer the question coz she hasn’t got that X factor to represent the Philippines. You may look beautiful but no brain.

  12. Phil says:

Shame on u Monica Lark!Check your grammar first before criticize someone.

  13. wilma says:

i totally agree with lyn ruth. what major mistake a 22 year old who grew up in a conservative family in a backward and serene town can possibly make. She’s young and yet to experience life. She was just being honest. I have to say I am really proud of her. She has come a long way.

  14. AsianGirl says:

Yes before you guys go ” are you prettier than her? if not shut up! ” related comments directed towards me…

I figured asking myself and my mother(well we were watching together)a zillion times WHY is Philippines even selected to enter the semi-finals, let alone the finals.

Perhaps for various reasons and to avoid the public commenting on Miss Universe being biased, every year(at least in my impression), there will be at least 1 Asian finalist.

If that is the “rule”, I can definitely see other prettier women. Thailand,Japan,Korea WERE STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL, or at least way better as compared to Miss Philippines! This may be a superficial comment but it IS a pageant and looks MATTER, and all the more I don’t understand. She doesn’t look flattering on stage at all.

OFF TOPIC: Mexico reminds me of vanessa hudgens! ;D

  15. fairly says:

Shut up! Daisy aya! and Monica C Clark! Stop criticize Miss Philippine! I don’t think it’s fair for Miss Philippine to get this tough question harder than Miss Mexico.. And Miss Philippine answer honestly, the question was asking about Major major mistake in life and if you’ve never done any major mistake in life why would you say on the TV that you did!?By making up the story about you made Major major mistake in life? And Monica! I’m not a Philippino and it’s just unbeliveable that you’re a jerk to your own race!? You should congradulate Miss Philippine and support her for what she’s come from and achieved! Sham on you!
Congradulation! Miss Philippine you’re beautiful and young keep your head high.

  16. beloved says:
